General Awareness Study Material: Important Tips to Learn

General awareness study is one of the most critical aspects civil services exam preparations. Fortunately for aspiring takers, there are numerous resources, study materials, and notes that are available online, including articles that are specifically created to help you ace your test—whether it be an itemised exam, a general awareness paper, or an actual interview. In addition to these study materials, you will find many useful resources for studying general awareness in the form of:

Periodicals and newspapers – One of the best ways to gain general awareness is reading the periodicals daily. Making a habit of reading the news opens your mind to the things happening around. Reading and studying more than one publication is advisable (The Telegraph, The Times of India, and The Hindu, are good papers to study) so you can get balanced views on pressing issues of the day. Online news sites are also great sources of general awareness materials. In fact, they are preferred by many because they offer more real-time updates than their printed counterparts.

Current affairs programs – If you learn better by listening and watching rather than reading a bunch of news articles, a good work around would be tuning in some of the best current affairs and special programs on local and international news channels. Spending at least an hour a day watching current events programs and specials can hugely improve your general awareness. Web news resources even provide you more flexibility by making the same programs available to you at a time that is most convenient, so you never have to miss a beat or work around airing schedules that may interfere with other important activities.

Study notes – Writing down important terms and details you think will likely appear on your general awareness exam is also good practice, as you retain information better as you write them down.

Magazines and books – There are also plenty of general knowledge magazines and books that you can turn to for additional information. Some good resources would be business and sports magazines, journals, and even lifestyle magazines that feature current trends.

Online quizzes – Practising for your general awareness exam is always a good idea. There are countless mock tests that you can take for free online. These online quizzes don’t only help you gauge your knowledge about general information, but also help you evaluate how you will most likely perform during your actual exam.

Benefits of Solving SBI Clerk Papers

Students preparing for their SBI Clerk Exam benefit from solving previous SBI Clerk papers because this lets them simulate how the test will go and understand how questions are asked within the exam. You will find numerous websites offering both solved and unsolved SBI Clerk papers to help you practice the exam on your own and gauge how well you will do when your time comes.

The SBI Clerk exam, just like any other professional test, requires commitment and preparation. This said, no amount of study can help you prepare and understand the challenges that the actual exam will bring the way that solving previous years’ papers can. Below are major benefits you will get from cracking previous year SBI Clerk Papers:

You get to understand the exam pattern. One of the key takeaways you will get from solving a previous year SBI Clerk paper is a thorough understanding of the examination pattern. Using previous question papers as reference will help you gather the necessary information you need to establish the syllabus of topics covered. These papers also help you determine how different topics are weighted and how the entire exam is graded, so you can prioritise topics to focus on.

You get a glimpse of question formats. Under pressure, your level of comprehension may be compromised. By taking sample exams prior to your actual test date, you get to have a feel of how statements and questions are formed, helping you understand what is being asked better, even under pressure. Familiarising yourself with the testing style and pattern of the actual exam will also save you a great deal of time as opposed to trying to figure out an entirely new testing format right then and there.

Solved papers not only give you answers, but a detailed explanation of the topics covered, helping you gain a deeper understanding of the concepts you need to know to ace your own exam.

A cross check of available and required materials will help to highlight what is missing, to facilitate relevant material to cover all topics.

Chalk out a plan to tackle the difficult subjects
It is important to chalk out a clear plan for tackling the subjects in order of difficulty. More time needs to be devoted to complete the most difficult subjects. A proper plan should be put in place to ensure that sufficient time is available for a recap of preparations prior to the exams.

Take detailed notes
One of the biggest aids during preparation for exams will be exhaustive notes. The notes help to jog the memory and improve levels of preparation. It is difficult to commit everything to memory, especially in the context of a competitive exam, which could be stressful.

Preparing comprehensively for aptitude tests
One of the most important and sometimes difficult to overcome tests are the aptitude tests. This is best tackled by solving the problems regularly. A cramming session will, actually be the worst option as it will never help to understand the logic and the workings.  Regular practice will help to improve speed, in addition to understanding if improvement has indeed occurred

How to Find the Best Logical Reasoning Study Material Online?

Preparing for competitive exams means covering a vast array of subjects and question types. Logical reasoning is one of them. While it has been traditionally considered to be easier than other sections like Quantitative Aptitude, the Logical Reasoning section can throw you some real twisters. In fact, its perceived ease is what gets most test takers. They do not prepare hard enough and fail to score as much as they could have. Good logical reasoning study material can strengthen your knowledge in the section and give you a better command over it. It might mean the difference in whether you crack the competitive exam you have been preparing so hard for. However, good study material is hard to find–most books you find in stores are rarely updated and rehashed with the same outdated approach.

The internet on the other hand, possesses a vast resource of study material. From the simple general knowledge guides to intensive material on grammar and logical reasoning, everything is within easy reach. Most students now prefer to study with material they find online as it is available for free or at reasonable prices.

With so much logical reasoning study material available online, it becomes a bit daunting to pick the best one. Here are some of the ways to find best logical reasoning study material online.

  • Decide what you are looking for: This first and foremost step is extremely crucial in picking the best material for your preparation. Decide if you are looking for a complete book on logical reasoning, or just some information on how to attempt them quickly. Both of them are totally different things. Hence, deciding on what you are looking will definitely help you get the best. If you are looking for some sample papers, then you can find them online too.
  • Search for what you need: A search result depends on the keyword you type in. Therefore, knowing what you want exactly becomes important here. If you are looking for a book in a pdf format, then you can use the operator ‘filetype: pdf’ in the search box along with necessary keywords to limit your search to pdf documents only. If you just want information from a specific site, then you can use the operator ‘site:’ or exclude a site with ‘-site:’ Note that there is no space before the minus (-) sign.

  • Filter the search results: Once you have searched using the appropriate keyword, the next step is to filter the search results according to your preference. So if you are looking for material only from the past year, you can set that. It is also a good idea to limit the sites by country. The top ranked searches or websites are likely to be best and reliable, but it is okay to look beyond the first page.
